David Wilson is the Head Teacher of optical courses at the Open Training and Education Network (OTEN) with students across Australia and New Zealand. He has been in optics since 1972. In 1999 he published a textbook in optical dispensing, Practical Optical Dispensing, the second edition of which was published in December 2006.

He also wrote a second textbook, Practical Optical Workshop, published in 2002, which is a companion volume to the first book. David has lectured in a number of countries including the United States, England, South Africa, Malaysia, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. He is an adjunctsenior lecturer at Vision CRC at the University of NSW and a visiting lecturer at the University of Sydney. He is also a past President of the International Opticians Association. He is currently studying for his PhD at the University of NSW.
